Who We Are
Terroir & Wick grew out of a lifetime of lived experiences — many seasons, many chapters, and many ways of being in the world. The word terroir describes how place, environment, and care shape what grows. That idea resonates deeply here. Life has taken us through abundance and scarcity, marriage and single parenting, loss and reinvention, off-grid living and settled routines. Each season left its mark, teaching resilience, adaptability, and the value of slowing down enough to notice what truly matters.
At its heart, Terroir & Wick is about grounding — creating small moments of warmth and calm in the midst of busy, often overwhelming lives. Candles and wax melts became a creative refuge, a way to work with our hands, experiment, and reconnect with the senses. What started as a personal outlet has grown into a shared project, crafted alongside my son, and shaped by our love for place, family, and meaningful work. Each scent is hand-poured in small batches, inspired by landscapes, memories, and the quiet moments that help us feel at home.
Terroir & Wick is also part of a longer vision. As an educator working with children with significant autism support needs, and as a parent to a beautifully complex family, this work is rooted in care, inclusion, and possibility. The hope is that this small business becomes not just a creative venture, but a pathway — one that offers purpose, connection, and future opportunities for our children, including meaningful work and independence. This is a beginning, shaped by where we’ve been and guided by where we hope to go.

Many Lives, One New Beginning
I’ve lived many lives already.
I’ve been rich, and I’ve been poor. I’ve been married, and I’ve been a single mom. I’ve lived off-grid in a motor home with no water or electricity, raising sheep, horses, chickens, and a cow. I’ve lost jobs, changed directions, and started again. I’ve added four children through adoption at fifty. I’ve farmed, raised milk goats and sheep for wool, gone back to school for my doctorate, and eventually let farming go when the season changed.
This blog is a place to reflect on what I’m learning as I step into yet another chapter — building Terroir & Wick with my son, rediscovering creativity as a form of rest, and imagining a future that blends meaningful work with purpose. It’s about starting small, experimenting, getting things wrong, and finding joy in the process. It’s about balance — between school and home, work and creativity, responsibility and imagination.
I don’t have a tidy ending or a five-step plan. What I do have is curiosity, a willingness to try, and a belief that the things we create together — especially with our children — matter. This space will hold reflections on that journey, the lessons along the way, and the quiet hope that what we’re building now might one day support independence, dignity, and opportunity for the children we love most.
